Animation

Hindsight is Always 20/20

This is my entry I submitted for the March 2012 11 Second Club competition. I am shocked to say that it won 1st place!
The piece took me a little over 2 weeks to complete. The majority of the time was spent on planning, animation, and polish. I ran out of time towards the end, so I didn’t get to polish everything I wanted to. It’s still quite rough around the edges, but I am going to continue to work on it before it goes on my reel.
I reused the set and most of the set dressing from an older animation project I created a couple years ago. Some of the other background objects were downloaded from Archive3D.net The Malcolm rig was used courtesy of AnimSchool.com. However, I did modify him slightly by creating a custom skin shader/texture as well as his shirt and suspenders. The project, as a whole, was created in Maya and rendered using Mental Ray.

Dim Pickin’s

This is an assignment I completed for my Animation Tutorial class at CCA. The base assignment was an interaction with an object, but we were each given a unique theme. I was given “discover as if weak”. Over all, the project took me a little over a month to complete. Along with the animation, I modeled the mineshaft set, pick axe prop and the prospector’s clothes. I used the Morpheus Rig by Josh Burton. The other background props were free models found on TurboSquid. I also lit and rendered the scene using Mental Ray in Maya. I did the sound design using Apple Soundtrack Pro. The song is “Arkansas Traveler” by Wade Ward.

Dog Trot

This is a quadruped character walk assignment I completed for my Animation Tutorial class. The rig is Koko by Jana Johnson. The set is a free model I got off of TurboSquid. I lit and rendered the scene using Mental Ray in Maya.

Fall Rhythms

This is the final film I made for my Experimental Animation class at CCA. I completed it over the course of 5 weeks. The animation is still rough. Eventually I want to go back and clean up the drawings. I animated the dancer in Flipbook. The leaves and branch were made in Maya. The backgrounds were done in Photoshop. I composited everything together using After Effects. The music is from the song “Sun Will Set” by Zoe Keating.

StopMo Waiting

This is a project I completed for my Experiment Animation Class at CCA. You can read more about the short on my blog.

Box Step

This is another body mechanics assignment from my Animation 2 class at CCA. The rig is a modified version of Norman.

Side Step

This is an animation assignment I completed for my Animation 2 class at CCA. The rig is a modified version of Norman.

StopMo Squirrel

This is an animation assignment I completed for my Experimental Animation class at CCA. I constructed the squirrel puppet out of construction paper and small brads. I used Flipbook for capture.

L’Amour dans le Parc (Love in the Park) – A Flour Sack Love Story

This short film was my final project for my Animation 1 class at CCA. It was all traditionally animated, with the exception of the bus, which I added in After Effects. All the characters are animated on separate layers. All together I went through about 2 1/2 reams of animation paper. I shot and comped it together using Flipbook.

Nick Danger Answers the Phone

This is an assignment for the Character Animation 2 class I took while I was in the MFA program at Academy of Art. The assignment was to animate a character answering the phone with a 100 frame limit. I modeled, textured and lit the background then rendered using Mental Ray. The rig is a modified version of Norman.

Cartoony Great Dane Walk Cycle

This is another assignment from the Character Animation 2 class at the Academy. This is my first quadruped cycle I ever did. The model is by Chris Baker, rigged by Javier “Goosh” Solsona and facial setup by Jesse Davis.
